The clouds in the second photo are marvelous. I must say, though — both of them look exceedingly cold. You know — like below 40F.
I had terrible weather for my trip — gray, cloudy, rainy, gloomy. But I persevered, and ended up with a few photos that were ok to ok-+. I was all by myself, sitting on the floor of a Spanish mission church, trying to figure out how to get a decent photo of the century plant they’d decorated as a Christmas tree, when another guy with a camera wandered in. “Praying to the great gods of photography?” he asked. We both laughed, and then he pulled out a lens from his bag. It was bigger than my cat. Good grief. :-)
It wasn’t as cold as it looked — I think it was well above 40 °F when we took that one. Germany rarely gets the harsh, dry winter temperatures I’m used to from Michigan. After Christmas it started to dump snow pretty hard for a few days in a row and temperatures have been hovering around freezing since then. Great for starting a thaw if the sun comes out and then freezing the liquid back into fresh danger when it drops below the horizon a few minutes later.
Another consequence of this are Dachlawinen. Sarah spotted the first one of the year this morning.
